Lockdown Perspectives: (Thoughts/ Ideas/ Concepts)

This lockdown the one thing that comes to mind as most important, not just to us as people but for us as a country too… is self-reliance and sustainability.

While people were/are home and having various insecurities about the future and their survival, especially those not privileged enough to sustain through smoothly, we realize that if we just had food, water, and a shelter on our heads and would not have to worry about these basics in life, most of the insecurities and anxieties would have gone, and we would have lived through any time frame of a lockdown without worrying about survival.

Most of the other things are what we don’t need, what we buy for comfort, luxuries, to pursue passions, or are advertising induced.

If we all did just one thing and that nature provides for free i.e. ‘Growing our own food’ it would lead to a happier and more secure society.

What kids should be learning

Now, this doesn’t mean we grow everything we consume but even if we grow a few things or some exotic things too, it means at least technically and conceptually that we could trade it for other things we consume. That’s the way life was always meant to be for humans – “live in loving communities, grow our own food, create art and not work day and night until we die”… well, at least we can get close enough.

In today’s day and age, you don’t need to own a farm or a piece of land. You can grow your own food even from space in your balcony, terrace, kitchen, space in your backyard, or building driveway if any,

or at any space that you can utilize for it.

There’s also a concept called ‘Hydroponic farming’ where you don’t even need soil and can have small plants growing in little spaces you create and with water-soluble nutrients only.

Whatever be the case, I think it’s imperative we all do this, it’s also important we teach our kids this in school rather than a lot of mundane things they learn. It’s also important we grow some at home and be self-sustaining in such a way that if everything is taken away from us, we still can survive with nothing at all…the way nature was actually supposed to be.

From a start-up idea point of view, I think it will make a brilliant business case especially at this point in time where these gardens/urban home farms can be set up for people and then regularly service them with seeds, planters, pots, etc and also help in getting the surplus to market. Also, there is an amazing opportunity for a co-owned/shared/fractional ownership farming on a real piece of land, where parts of it are assigned to many owners and the managing company services it, provides the product to their homes and markets the surplus. Organic food is the flavor of the day and it can be the U.S.P of the produce too where owners get fresh, healthy organic vegetables and it seeks a good price in the market. Those who want to get back to nature can help in farming too!

I’m tagging a post of a friend Monica Khosla Bhargava where she had shared a design of a beautiful home with a small area to grow plants, and also the post of another friend Pravin Singhania where he shares his perspective on the same and is an avid farming enthusiast. Food for thought? ….Well almost literally 🙂

#freeflow

An evening of converting ideas to visuals

“The Winning Presentation” event hosted by Freeflow, turned out to be a successful event. It was an informative event for the attendees. The event was conducted in 3 sessions: the first session was conducted by Aaquib Hussain, which was an introduction to the approach to marketing strategy and understanding the different people that need to be addressed when launching your product or services in the market.

He well explained that there have to be different presentations for different purposes. Like, the presentation to investors has to be different, presentations for potential stakeholders has to be different, presentations for target consumers has to be different. There are different standards and components for a presentation when pitched on-stage, and a different presentation to be attached with an email.

The second session was conducted by Srish Aggarwal, who explained the concept of branding, and how necessary it is in today’s economy.

The third session was conducted by Rudranil Das, where he explained the quintessential tools, and resources vital for developing the perfect presentation for catering to all requirements.

All the attendees to the event left with a good deal of knowledge on marketing strategies, branding, understanding consumer segmentation, and how to make the perfect presentation, to be market-ready.

Well, all the attendees left the room full with enthusiasm and eagerness to attend the next event “The flow Bootcamp” on which they will work on their specific models and make it market-ready.

Bruce Wayne Birthday Poster

Lessons from Mr. Wayne

Bruce Wayne owns a billion-dollar company, he is an entrepreneur himself and there are a few lessons which we can learn from him.

On account of the batman’s birthday, let’s take a look at the life lessons, his entrepreneurship journey has to offer. Bruce Wayne is the son of Physician Thomas Wayne and his wife Martha.  Martha Wayne was a member of the prominent and wealthy Kane family.  Thomas Wayne’s family reaches back as far as the founding of Gotham City. Well, I am not writing this to enlighten you on the history of the Wayne family. Bruce Wayne owns a billion-dollar company, so Batman is an entrepreneur himself and there are a few lessons which we can learn from him.

Understand your audience deeply:

As a young man, Bruce Wayne left Gotham city, his house, and luxuries of life to shed his celebrity status. He goes on a journey of self-discovery and lives the life of a common man. He even goes to the extent of becoming a criminal himself to understand their mindset.

Most successful businesses begin by noticing a problem for which there isn’t an adequate solution. But the real work comes with getting into the mind of your customers to learn how they think.

Focus on your “why”:

Bruce Wayne starts to eliminate corruption because he had a motive which was to stand against it and carry his parent’s legacy. There was no ego or thunder of revenge involved, only due to he wanted to stand up against those things which his parents stood against. His “why” was all about the desire to carry that legacy.

Bruce Wayne’s ‘why’ is his north star, and motivates him to push through the pain and misery that comes with being Batman.

A good entrepreneur has a bigger mission beyond profits that motivates them to carry on through hard times. The north star that guides them to make decisions that are better for the long term goals of the company.

Don’t wait for the “big launch”:

Bruce is onto something. He knows he wants to become a symbol, but he doesn’t know what that symbol is quite yet. He knows he wants to strike fear in the hearts of criminals, but he doesn’t quite know-how.

Still, none of that stops him from moving forward. He goes back to Gotham and takes over the applied science department at Wayne Enterprises with Lucius Fox. He researches the big players in Gotham, from mob bosses to cops and judges to figure out who can be trusted. His first time going out he wears a ski mask.

This is exactly what you need in your life, you don’t need to wait till you figure every single detail about your plan and then start working on it. Just the idea and willingness to strive and accomplish the goal of success in your business should be enough to get you going, you will eventually figure out things working on your idea with time and soon your entire idea will be in physical form.

Adapt and Improvise:

At one point, Batman realizes his job entails jumping off ledges, and the landings don’t tickle, so he has Lucius Fox build him a cape that can help soften his fall.

He realizes he has to cover long distances he gets his suit designed that way.

This is exactly what young entrepreneurs need in life. Adapting improvising should be your keys to success too. You should look for the space of improvements and work on them until you successfully improve them in your business. As you will offer your services or products in the market, you need to take feedbacks as well, analyze them and improvise your business accordingly.

Learn to build trust and work as a team:

The Dark Knight realized he couldn’t always succeed alone, despite his many gadgets. Like all good entrepreneurs, he built a team. Both Robin and Batgirl were always kept in the loop and were well-trained at using Batman’s gadgets. Likewise, a successful digital transformation needs the right people and skills. It’s not all about getting the right tech – they also need the right talent with the necessary superpowers to address the needs of the business.

Lion never chases mice poster

Entrepreneur’s Sunday Food for thought

He instead takes his time, plans, waits for the right moment and targets the Gazelle

A Lion never chases mice.

He can easily catch them but he knows that the number of calories he will burn catching one of them will be more than the calories he gets after eating one, and he would soon die with this effort.

He instead takes his time, plans, waits for the right moment and targets the Gazelle. One that gives him enough food to last until the next hunt and enough in terms of calories and energy.

As entrepreneurs when we wake up each day, the mice may be taking most of our time – little matters, not so important issues and other daily routines. We miss the target or the fact that the focus needs to be on the Gazelle, after which all these smaller matters are taken care of anyways.

Are you still hunting mice? It’s time to Target and hunt that Gazelle in your business!

Identify it and go after it relentlessly.
